MEET THE DOCTORS

Dr. Jonathan
W Frederick, Dr. Mark McIlwain, Dr. Christopher Nester,
After four years of dental
school education, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon completes
an additional 4-6 years of intensive training in a hospital
based surgical residency program. Oral surgery residents
rotate through related medical fields such as anesthesiology,
general surgery, plastic surgery, internal medicine and
emergency medicine.
Dr. McIlwain and Dr. Nester
are Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery, and Dr. Frederick is board eligible. All are active
in dental, medical and oral and maxillofacial surgery organizations.
Mark R. McIlwain, D.M.D., M.D. is from Butler, Alabama and
received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama.
After completing dental school at the University of Alabama
in Birmingham, he practiced general dentistry in the Shoals
area town of Tuscumbia, Alabama for 5 years. Dr. McIlwain then
completed his Doctor of Medicine degree, with a General Surgery
Internship, and his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency
at Vanderbilt University Medical School, and returned to the
Shoals Area in 1992.
Christopher "Chris" Nester, D.M.D., M.D. was born
in Waterbury, Connecticut and received his Bachelor of Science
degree from Southern Connecticut State University. He attended
The University of Connecticut Dental School and completed an
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship at Louisiana State
University. Dr. Nester received his medical degree from Vanderbilt
Medical School. He completed a year of General Surgery Internship
and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Vanderbilt University
Medical Center. Additional Cosmetic Surgery training was achieved
in a fellowship in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Jonathan W Frederick grew up in Tuscumbia, Alabama. After completing
his undergraduate studies at the University of North Alabama,
he received his dental degree from the Universty of Alabama
in Birmingham. Dr. Frederick completed his Doctor of Medicine
degree, with a General Surgery Internship, and his Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Vanderbilt University Medical
School.
